Of poses, perspectives, expressions and masks.

Scythe... again, this time me trying out an odd foreshortened (kinda) pose, a couple of mask designs; one I really like and one not so much. The other is just a random of her pulling out her sword.

Sketchy business

More Scythe, I think I might be obsessed. The first one in the top left was me just refining the design of her armor, the light one right of it is the design of her back harness that holds her weapons. I'm not sure why I drew the one of her leaning back. You decide, am I crazy or just odd.

Not so random, random art.

Leaving you with something

Before I leave for the week I've decided to leave you with something.

Just some gestures I did while taking breaks during packing.

They're nothing special, but I liked em. So here you go. Seems I've had an obsession with bears as of late xD

I got two tattoos and a big effin sword, back off!

Here's some more of Scythe, mask less and shirt less so I could design her body tattoos. Though I didn't end up coming up with much. So if you guys have ideas for some neat tattoos for her left arm, neck and back let me know.

Away!

Just wanted to let you guys know I'll be away for the week starting on Saturday. I'll be back late next Sunday I believe. Anyways, hope everyone has a good week. I'll have my cell should you need to contact me (not that I'd be able to do much seeing as I'll be up north)

Here's hoping I have a relaxing week. Toodles.

On Drama.

Here's a "quick" action pose sketch of scythe lunging forward to shank a guy off camera. I say "quick" because I actually drew this twice, once which I think was the better version but because of some bad luck and not so good sketch book paper the eraser cut a hole into the drawing. So I traced the surviving parts and tried my best to recapture the spirit of the original sketch which came together really fast.

A page of bears and monsters

A crappy page of bears... but bears none the less.

This whole page took me about 45 minutes >.> its terrible, but I'm posting cause Jon told me to and he wanted to see it.

So there you go.. have some really terrible bears... with tusks... and some boar... thing >.>

And also... a page of monsters >.> still not the greatest monsters but yah xD

Scythe The Demasking, part 3 ~ Fixing issues and adding details or 'Whose Bad?!"

So here's the next step in the overly long process of creating a pencil drawing. I say drawing because at this point its beyond a 'sketch' I'd say it stopped being that at part 2. Anyways in this part I took the comments I got from Michelle and Noah and my own observations and use it to fix nagging issues like her center of gravity and her awkward lean. Using 2h and F pencils I go over the details again, in this piece I'm not being too careful about line sensitivity or quality so things are kinda sharp, but as you guys know that's kind of part of my style. So here's Scythe...

If your interested her actual name is Elizabeth Scryer, which in regards to my setting is a human name instead of her native Vaylian. She uses a human name because she was orphaned and lost away from Vayle in her youth. She was and still is a quiet person, so instead of getting her real name out of her the people who adopted her/ saved her renamed her Elizabeth.

Scythe The Demasking, part 2 ~ Adding 'character'

Here is the next step in my drawing process, adding the character part to the base of the drawing. I use a 2h pencil directly over the 4h pencil, starting first it details that would be higher over the character like a raised piece of armor and details that face the background like her outline. After this I move onto fleshing out actual details and finishing the pencil piece.

Scythe the demasking, part 1 - The Process (edit)

Michelle asked to see my character drawing process,
so here's the first part of a maskless, armorless version of Scythe I'm drawing. Yes she's a woman, as expected.

So this is my "rough" part using a 4h I roughly (really roughly) sketch out her pose and anatomy adjusting as I go, there will be a few adjustments on this one before i move on to details. Like her head needs to be fixed, her thighs adjusted along with her breasts. I'll continue to post progress as it goes.

EDIT: Here's an update, with some details fixed.

Idea! Sketch Night

I've got an idea to keep the posts going, how about we do a random sketch night. We pick a night of the week, and we each post a random piece of artwork. Doesn't really need to be finished or relevant to recent topics your artwork as been about, just anything and everything. We could maybe even have topics for the sketch night, like fantasy, monsters or whatever.

Post a comment about it if your interested.

Alayna Progress

Hey guys, just thought I'd post a progress sketch of my strider character, now named Alayna, for Jon's campaign. Obvious inspiration is taken from Jon, so thank you Jon!

And... yah one of the better people I've drawn from my head. No reference save for the sketch Jon did of her.

I'll probably be painting this in painter once I've fixed up some of the issues with it >.>

Seeing as I don't draw people very often... would you guys mind critiquing this so I know what I'm doing wrong/right xD

Of Masks and Stabby Things.

More Scythe, turning out to be my current favorite character to draw. A good mix of detail, and a certain attitude the character exumes to me. Reminds me alot of a sith lord I guess, only in white. Anyways

Enjoy

did this a few months back. picked up a book documenting graffiti and it inspired me a bit so i opened up photoshop and started fooling around a bit. good fun.

that shrimp....thing

that shrimp that i did like a year ago all coloured in. took maybe an hour or 2 in photoshop CS. There's a story behind it (2 actualy) thanks to my good friend Ryan, but ill just post this instead of the story.
Im thinking of doing another verson of this thats a lot more dynamic; having the sub speeding away with the shrimp trying to eat it (with all those pointy mandibles!) in a prespective shot with dramatic forshortening.
that is if i ever feel like going back.

On Dragon DNA (Updated Sketch)

An updated version of the previous sketch, enjoy.

Here there be dragon...people.

Another sketch page, this one is a working sketch of a character I'm making for Michelle. Again from my setting, she's a mutation of a race called the "Vayle" which are evolved from a dragon, every few generations a Vayle is born more dragon than man. They call these mutants "Striders" because of their legs, some call them Witchkin or Drake Borne aswell.

On stabby things...

More of the mysterious person in white, I call the character Scythe "The Bloodsoaked". In my setting you know you've made it to the big time when the public give you a scary moniker (or heroic one if you swing that way).
Enjoy!

The near future

Hey guys, Noah here, just a heads up
I will only be attending the first semester of Visual Creative arts this year. Been looking at money long term and what I hope to accomplish and I'm going to be attending the first semester in the interests of getting my portfolio complete and epically awesome. Hopefully after that's done I will get into Illustration. But after first semester i will be going back to working full
time so i can afford classes in the future as well as money to move to and live in Oakville.
I look forward to seeing all of you who are returning!

On New Characters...

Hey guys,
this is a recent sketch page I felt like posting, it's a new character for a setting I'm working on. The character is a wandering warrior kind of like Yojimbo from the Kurosawa movie of the same name or like Clint Eastwood's character "the Man with no Name". Hope you like the character, also I'm purposely being ambiguous with the particulars of the character's gender, race and so forth.

WIP

Just the WIP for the banner for my blog.

That right hand side is looking empty and I'm not too sure if I should add anything to the banner to draw the eye over to the text on the right.

Those berries in the front are going to be blurred out so the focus lands on the bird. Maybe I could make the branch he's standing on longer?

I dunno what do you guys think?

(also ignore that ugly watermark. I've learned to be careful on the internet regarding my art xD)

Second Art?

This is a little old, I drew it back in the beginning of June. I still like it though. If you guys want to hear the story about this 100 year old barn you can check it out here!

Hehe no more DeviantArt for me

Yah, that's right I pretty much shut my DA page down. I threw everything into storage and I've changed my homepage. I need a break from all of it. I've been feeling incredibly unmotivated and creatively starved. I haven't really been coming up with my own ideas. All I've been doing is leeching off the ideas of others and it's sort of making me really really frustrated.

So yah, I'll be posting art here and on my other blog too. Hopefully when I get some cool ideas I'll finish something (or maybe I'll doodle some sketches) and post it >.> I might work on my story idea that I came up with while I was in Fundies with you guys.

We shall see!

If you guys don't know where my other blog is it's here!

First Art?

This is something I doodled last night, then slapped some colours on. I say that, but lines + colours took like 1-2 hours. Still, it's the first thing I've sort-of finished in forever, so it's a mood-boost to post it!

This is my uniform for my job at Co-0p. The thing in my hand is the butter-mayo spreader. Lol, I'm holding it upsidown. Oops!

Sir Edward Grey Witchfinder

Hey guys,

I picked this up last week, great read especially if you like Victorian England as a setting and creepy supernatural stuff. It's a 6 issue mini series so no worries about getting roped into a long ongoing, 3.99 an issue and totally worth it.

Late to the Party

... but at least I showed up.

I know you can read my thoughts too boy ...

meow meow meow meow ....

bus srsly im working on the banner. just a matter of time.

Never mix Kahlua with Dr.Pepper

As title says, trust me... It's bad.

The first post!

This is Michelle here, and this is the first post on our soon to be organized sketchblog! Jonny, Janet, Andrew, Linda and Noah will all hopefully be posting art here and asking for critiques from each other and the general public. It's also just a place for us to be sharing our art :D

Here's hoping it works out!
